Just half an hour drive from Bergamo, San Pellegrino is known to be home of the iconic water. Lying along the banks of the river “Brembo”, this picturesque village used to be a hotspot for prominent politicians, members of royal dynasties and show business artists. Traces of this glorious past are still visible in the wide range of Liberty style buildings scattered along both sides of the river. Today the real buzz revolves around the state-of-the-art thermal complex and the refurbished casino. Finally, do not miss out on the “Grand Hotel” whose sheer beauty will marvel you. It appears to be the Italian version of the blockbuster Shining’s “Overlook Hotel”, and yet eventually, it will be restored to its former glory and will welcome guests again.

Halfway between Bergamo and Milan lies Crespi D’Adda, a UNESCO world heritage site since 1995. Brought to life in the second half of the 19th century by Francesco Crespi, an enlightened and visionary entrepreneur well ahead of his time, Crespi D’Adda was planned to provide the laborers employed in the local cotton mill with housing and services. Still remarkably withstanding the test of time, Crespi is an outstanding example of “company towns”, which thrived across Europe in the aftermaths of the industrial revolution. If you are really into long walks, you may very well go for a stroll along the banks of the “Adda” river, one stone’s throw from the village.
